Cleveland State Baseball got back on the winning track on Wednesday, sweeping Carson Newman University's junior varsity team in Jefferson City, Tenn. in an afternoon doubleheader.

GAME 1-

In the first game, the Cougars defeated the Eagles 7-2. Left fielder Bryce Jenkins had a multi-RBI game, going one-for-four with two runs driven in. Shortstop J.D. Day was two-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI as well as a home run, while catcher Ryan McCarthy, designated hitter Caden Smith and first baseman Reese Plemons were all one-for-three with an RBI in the contest. McCarthy also crossed home plate once.

On the mound, Daniel Crabtree earned his third win of the season, tossing three frames of one run, one hit baseball with a career-best six strikeouts. Both Bryce Houghton and Dayton Wisley threw two scoreless innings of relief with each batter striking out three and two batters, respectively. 

GAME 2-

In the second game of the day, the Cougars won 6-2. Designated hitter Brandon Lejeune led the team with two RBI and was one-for-two with a run scored and a home run in the game. Third baseman Jacob Robinson had the Cougars' other RBI in the contest and was a perfect two-for-two with a run scored and a walk. Lance Dockery also had a multi-RBI game, going two-for-three with a run scored.

Bryce Clark started the game for the Cougars and pitched three innings of one run, three strikeout baseball. Owen Clark received the win in the game, tossing two innings while only allowing one run and striking out four batters. Jared Young also came in in relief and threw two perfect innings and struck out a career-best three.

Cleveland State will be back in action on Saturday as they host Vincennes University. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
