COUGARS ADVANCE IN TOURNEY; PLAY WALTERS THIS WEEKEND

The Cougars used good pitching and tinely hitting Tuesday afternoon to advance in the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament with a 10-0 defeat of the Roane State Raiders.  With the win, the Cougars advance to next round this weekend where they travel to Morristown to ake on the Senators of Walters State in a best-of-three series.

The Cougars scored early as they plated their first run when Ryan McCarthy stole second as Tate Daniels scooted home with the first run.  They plated two more runs in the second as Courtney Payne hit a two run home run.  They would breakthe game open with five runs in the fourth on a Roane State error, and RBI groundout, and run producing singles by Lance Dockery and Jacob Robinson.  They would end the contest with two runs in the fifth on consecutive singles by McCarthy and Robinson.

Cleveland had nine hits in the game with Robinson and Smith the only ones with multiple hits.  Robinson would have three RBIS while McCarthy and Payne had two each.  Kaleb Orr went the distance for the win.  He went five inning, giving up just one hit while walking three and striking out four batters.
