Cougars Split Double Header Home Opener

Cleveland State Cougars baseball split their double header home opener today against Gordon State College.

The Cougars took game one 8-3 led by starting pitcher Carter Fink.  He pitched five innings striking out eight, walking none while allowing one run on four hits.

"We were really pleased with Carter's outing today", head coach Mike Policastro said.  "He had a good mix and pounded the strike zone.  Our offense was able to take advantage of situations."

Third baseman Jacob Robinson led the way hitting going 2-3 scoring two runs.  First baseman A.J. Swader also scored twice.

In game two the Cougars were up two after the second inning with one run coming from Swader hitting a solo home run.

But a three error third inning helped lead to six Gordon State runs causing Cleveland State to play catch up the rest of the game.  The Cougars lost game two 9-6.

"In game two we gave up too many free bases with walks and not making the defensive play when we needed to," Policastro said.

The Cougars are on the road for their next game this Wednesday at Calhoun Community College.
