Cleveland State played host to Wallace State Community College-Hanceville on Tuesday March 28 and followed up their series win vs Motlow State by besting Wallace 8-4 moving their overall season record to 18-10.  The Cougars used 11 hits to score eight runs while using seven pitchers for the win.

After spotting Wallace a run in the second inning the Cougars scored three in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.  Bryce Burkey started the rally with a one out triple and came home to score on a single by Rhett Hammontree.  Hammontree swiped second and Jaylen Jones walked both advancing to third and second on a wild pitch.  AJ Swader then singled scoring Hammontree and Jones.

In the bottom of the seventh it was again the combination of Burkey, Hammontree, Jones and Swader putting two runs on the board.  Burkey singled, Hammontree doubled, Jones was intentionally walked with Swader proceeding to single driving home Burkey and Hammontree.  The Cougars finished the inning with five runs as Riley Orr blasted a three-run homer giving Cleveland State an 8-1 lead.

Wallace scored three runs in the ninth for the final score of 8-4 with Drake Randolph, Cleveland State's third pitcher of the game winning his second game of the season.

The Cougars 11 hit attack was led by Hammontree who had three hits followed by Swader, Orr and Burkey each with two hits while Ryan Stephens and Colby Taylor had one hit each.  Back-to-back hitters Swader and Orr had four and three RBI's respectively.

Cleveland State with a conference record of 8-3 remain in second place in the TCCAA 1.5 games behind Walters State.

What's Next

The Cougars continue conference play travelling to Chattanooga State on Friday March 31 and Saturday April 1 for a three-game series vs the Tigers.  Currently Chattanooga State has a 7-5 TCCAA record and an overall season record of 22-6.
