Cougar Baseball Loses Game Three to Dyersburg State
In a statistically close game between Cleveland State and Dyersburg the Cougars lost the final game of the three-game series 6-3. Cleveland State now has an 8-8 overall record and conference mark of 1-3.
With eight hits on the game the Cougars started the scoring in the second inning as Rhett Hammontree singled home Riley Orr and Brandon LeJuene plated Jacob Robinson with a single. Dyersburg answered with two in the third to tie the score at two.
Both teams remained scoreless until the seventh when Dyersburg State scored three with the Cougars answering with one on a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Colby Taylor leaving Cleveland State with a two-run deficit.
The Cougars were unable to complete late inning rallies leading to the eventual 6-3 loss. On the game Cleveland State used five pitchers of record in striking out nine while giving up nine hits. LeJuene was the hit leader for the Cougars banging out three hits including a double followed by Hammontree who had two also with a double. The rest of the hitting attack included one hit each by Orr, Robinson and Bryson Trammell.
Cleveland State is back on the road quick travelling to Gordon State College on Tuesday March 7 with a game time start of 1:00 p.m. EST. Currently Gordon stands with a 9-11 record.
