Cleveland State travelled to Georgia Highlands College on Tuesday February 14 and battled the number 12 Nationally ranked Chargers eventually losing the slugfest 16-6.  On the game the Cougars banged out 12 hits including a two-run blast by Shortstop Rhett Hammontree.

 

Going into the bottom of the second Cleveland State jumped off to a 3-0 lead scoring two in the first inning when Jaylen Jones doubled home Bryce Burkey and then came in to score on a ground out by Bryson Trammell.  In the second inning with the bases loaded Trammell was hit by a pitch plating Corey Fields.

 

Highlands answered back with two in their half of the second leaving the Cougars with a one run lead.  Then it was Hammontree for Cleveland State in the third belting his two-run homer coupled with an additional unearned run as Burkey singled followed by an error for a 6-3 lead.

 

From the fourth inning until the eventual win the Chargers did the scoring while the Cougars remained scoreless.  Five Cleveland State batters had 10 of the Cougars 12 hits with Burkey, Jones, Riley Orr, Hammontree and Fields with two hits each.  Trammell and AJ Swader rounded out the attack each with one hit.

 

With an overall record of 4-3 the Cougars are on the road on Friday February 17 and Saturday February 18 to play daily doubleheaders vs East Georgia State College.  Game times are 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. on both days.  Currently East Georgia as a record of 2-4.
