Cougar Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Carson-Newman
On a non-conference road doubleheader vs Carson-Newman Cleveland State Baseball split a doubleheader winning the first game 12-5 while losing the second game 5-1. The Cougars have an overall record of 22-18 as they go into the final six conference games before the start of the NJCAA-TCCAA Region VII Tournament slated to begin on Sunday May 7 at Volunteer State.
Game One Recap
Scoring 12 runs on 12 hits the Cougars scored in all but the second and seventh innings as Ben Smith won his third game of the season throwing six innings with Brandon LeJeune pitching the seventh.
Leadoff Rhett Hammontree had three hits on the game while Riley Orr, Cannon Stafford, Jacob Robinson and Bryson Trammell had two hits each with one of Trammell's a two run homerun in the sixth. AJ Swader rounded out the hitting with one hit while scoring three runs in the 12-5 Cougar win.
Cleveland State managed just two hits in the game two 5-1 loss with one hit coming off the bat of Swader and a homerun by Reggie Cooper in the second inning.
