The Cougars split their double header at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Cleveland State (1-2) lost game one, but took game two at ABAC (2-4) handily.

"In the series we played well, we need to clean up a few things as the season progresses and continue to get better," head coach Michael Policastro said.

The Cougars struggled putting the ball in play in game one striking out 13 times in their 7-4 loss. ABAC's starter Jordan Stephens went 4.2 innings allowing three earned runs on four hits while striking out eight and walking one. William Richards pitched the final 2.1 innings earning the save not allowing a run or hit while striking out five and walking two.

Cleveland State struggled defensively allowing six runs in starter Andrew Kribbs' 3.2 innings of pitching with only one of those runs being earned. Kribbs finished with five strike outs and one walk while allowing six hits.

The Cougars bats fared much better in game two putting together 11 hits in their 6-1 victory. ABAC put up the game's first run in the bottom of the first, but Cleveland State's pitching kept their batters from crossing the plate the remainder of the game.

"It was good to get the win in game three," Policastro said.  "Austin Breedlove was dominating in throwing a complete game, we had timely hitting and were able to close out the game."

Austin Breedlove earned the victory pitching a complete game two hitter allowing one earned run on two hits while striking out seven and walking one.

Kain Collins went 3-4 hitting a solo home run and also doubling in game two. Will Webb went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored while De'Yon Cannon also finished 2-3 scoring a run. Ty Nettles also hit well going 2-4 with a double and a run scored.

Before the Cougars home opener next Saturday they are on the road one more time. They return to the field this Wednesday at Gordon State College with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
