Kain Collins led off the game with a double and Bryson Trammell hit a two-run homer for his sixth on the season for the game's first runs.
Cleveland State then scored three more in the top of the second with one coming on a wild pitch bringing home Nick Iezzi. Jacob Cooper also got home on a wild pitch, and Hunter Ryan scored after walking when Collins hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
Calhoun plated their only two runs in the bottom half of the second on a single hit by Cooper Phillips. The Cougars put up another four in the top of the third. Iezzi scored again, this time on a fly out by Will Webb. Cooper came home when Collins singled, then Ryan and Collins each scored on wild pitches.
No more runs came across until the top of the seventh when Nate Dunfee scored on a fielding error by the second baseman.
Cleveland State threw seven different pitchers, one per inning, with Austin Miller (3-1) starting the game picking up the victory.
The Cougars return to conference play when they hit the field next traveling to Columbia State (24-11, 14-4) for a three-game series starting Friday with a 5 p.m. eastern first pitch.
