Cougars Comeback to Defeat Gordon State College

Cleveland State fell behind, but put together the offense needed taking a 6-5 win over Gordon State College this afternoon.

The Highlanders (14-12) drove in four runs in the top of the fifth on two singles scoring the game's first runs knocking out starting pitcher Austin Miller. He went four innings allowing seven hits while walking one.

The Cougars (15-8, 2-4) matched Gordon State in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. Brock Harvey singled in Evan Goins for the first run. Then, with bases loaded, Bryson Trammell was hit by a pitch bringing home Cannon Stafford. Harvey and Ty Nettles each scored the innings final two runs on Gordon State errors.

Trammell doubled in the bottom of the seventh driving in Harvey and Stafford to give Cleveland State a 6-4 lead. The Highlanders brought a run across in the top of the eighth, but were shutout in the top of the ninth.

Ben Norton earned his first save striking out one allowing no runs or hits while walking none in the ninth. Jeremy Crider earned his first victory of the year in his inning of work allowing no runs or hits while walking one.

The Cougars lost at Gordon State 13-0 on February 7, but with the win tied the home-and-home season series.

Cleveland State returns to the field hosting Jackson State in a three-game conference series this weekend. The games were originally scheduled to start Friday, but have been moved back a day due to incoming weather. The teams will play a double header on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
