The Cougars (11-7 0-3) returned to action for a TCCAA doubleheader on Saturday at Dyersburg State (18-3, 3-0) losing both games of the doubleheader 9-2 and 3-2.
In game one the Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Jaylen Jones who hit for the cycle in game one adding a single, double and triple in the seventh inning. That was the extent of the Cougars offense. Rhett Hammontree also had two doubles. Bryce Jenkins took the loss going 4 ⅓ innings allowing four hits, four runs three earned with 5 strikeouts.
In game two starter Owen Clark held the Eagles line up, allowing two runs in seven hits in 6/13 innings while striking out ten. The Eagles pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a strikeout wild pitch with the runner reaching first base. That was followed by a single moving runners to first and second. The Cougars recorded the second out in the inning with a strike out by Bryce Houghton before the Eagles coaxed a two out walk to load the bases allowing the winning run to move up 90 feet where he was able to score on a wild pitch.
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday March 9 for a scheduled doubleheader vs Brett Carroll Academy, before hosting their home TCCAA conference series vs. Jackson State.
