Game Recap

With runs scored every inning by either Cleveland State or Chattanooga State the Cougars came up short in the run's column losing 12-9 at the TCCAA Region VII tournament on Tuesday May 10.  Outhitting the Tigers 12-10 Cleveland State gave up four runs in the seventh inning leading to the eventual loss.

The Cougars started the scoring in the top of the first inning when Andre Tarver walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run and a Yosuany Herrera hit-by pitch plated another for a 2-0 lead.  In the fourth with the game knotted at two, Jaylen Jones sacrificed in a third run and Ryan Hammontree doubled in another putting Cleveland State back on top.

Inning five saw the Cougars answered a three spot by the Tigers with three of their own as runs were scored on a double by Bryce Burkey with a wild pitch scoring Herrera and an AJ Swader hit-by-pitch pushing across another.  At the end of six with the score tied at seven Jones delivered a solo homerun for a Cougar 8-7 lead which would be their last of the game as Chattanooga scored four in the bottom of the seventh putting the Cougars down by three.  In the ninth Swader crashed a homerun that would be too little too late.

Swader led the way in hitting with three hits on the game while four other players had eight hits of the Cougar 12 hit attack; two each by Jones, Hammontree, Avery Collins and Swader. Jacob Robinson chipped in with one. 

What's Next

With double elimination the name of the game Cleveland State remains in the tournament and is scheduled to play Motlow State at 1:00 p.m. EST time on Wednesday May 11. A win by the Cougars puts them back on the field at 7:30 p.m. with a yet to be determined opponent.
