The Wednesday April 6 midweek contest between Cleveland State and Wallace State-Hanceville turned in to a high scoring affair as the Cougars battled back from a seven-run deficit only to lose 11-8 as they prepare for a conference series this Friday and Saturday at Columbia State.
The Cougars jumped off to a first inning 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Jaylen Jones driving home Bryce Jenkins and held the lead until the third when Wallace scored two followed by six in the fourth putting Cleveland State down by seven. Not to be outdone the Cougars bounced right back and scored three in the fifth, two each in the sixth and seventh with two RBI's each coming from AJ Swader and Carson Strovinskas with a homerun and single RBI's from Jenkins, Rhett Hammontree and Bryce Burkey.
Cleveland State's five hits on the game included two by Burkey, the homerun by Strovinskas and singles by Jones and Swader. Six Cougar pitchers took the mound with Ben Smith starting and throwing two shutout innings while the Cougar defense would commit four errors leading to Wallace scoring six unearned runs out of their 11.

The Cougars head to Columbia State for a three game conference series vs the Chargers with a single nine inning game on Friday April 8 set to start at 3 p.m. EST and a doubleheader on Saturday April 9 with game times at 1 and 3 p.m. EST.
