Down 4-0 in the 6th inning Cleveland State scored five in the 6th and one in the 8th to win 6-5 vs Vincennes University, taking all three games of the series giving them an overall season record of 3-1.
Sunday's February 13, nine inning game featured a scoreless battle going into the 6th inning when Vincennes scored four only to be answered back by a 5 spot from the Cougars. Cleveland State used four of the five hits they had on the game to take the lead, starting with a homerun by center fielder Cameron Campbell. RBI singles by Bryce Burkey and Brandon LeJeune followed by a 2-run single by Jacob Robinson gave the Cougars a 5-4 lead.
After Vincennes tied the score at five in the top of the 8th, Cougar catcher Ryan Stephens hit a sacrifice fly to center field driving home short stop Rhett Hammontree who had singled and moved to second and third on pass balls.
Cleveland State used five pitchers on the day as starter Bryce Jenkins went five innings, striking out seven. Brett Varner, Trey Scott, Ben Smith and Bryce Houghton were effective in relief, pitching one inning each with Smith earning his first win and Houghton picking up his second save of the season.
In what was an extremely competitive series, Coach Policastro said: "All three wins were a total team effort."
On Tuesday February 15, Cleveland State travels to Georgia Highlands where they will take on the 10-0 Chargers in a 9-inning game. Game time is set for 3 p.m. EST.
