Game One Recap

 

With leads of 1-0 and 4-3 after three innings, the Cougars gave up four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lose game one 7-4.  Outhit 11 to seven by Cumberlands, Cleveland State hits were scattered and only led to the four runs.   

 

One hit each came off the bat of Bryce Jenkins, Jaylen Jones, Andre Tarver, Colby Taylor, Parker Evans and Bryce BurkeyRhett Hammontree combined with Jones, Tarver and Taylor to drive in the four Cougar runs.

 

Cleveland State pitching gave up runs in two of the seven innings and in spite of aggressive base running throughout the game with stolen bases from Jenkins, Tarver and two by Parker Evans, the Cougars were unable to rally in the top of the seventh.

 

Game Two Recap

 

In what can be termed a bounce back win in game two the Cougars lashed out 10 hits, scoring 10 runs to support Ben Smith who won his fourth game of the season, striking out seven with Bryce Houghton pitching 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts to end the game.

 

Four Cougars had two hits each, Taylor with a two-run homer, Carson Strovinskas, Nick Iezzi and Cameron CampbellAJ Swader and Yosuany Herrera each chipped in with one.

 

Taylor, Herrera and Campbell each had two RBI's while Brandon LeJeune. Strovinskas and Matt Schultz each drove in one.  With the score tied at three at the end of the third inning Cleveland State exploded for seven runs in the next three innings to put the finishing touches on the 10-6 win.

 

What's Next 

 

After the road split vs Cumberlands on Wednesday March 23, the Cougars have an overall record of 19-9 and conference mark of 5-3.  Cleveland State is back at conference play hosting Motlow State in a nine-inning game on Friday March 25 at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday March 26 at 12 and 2 p.m.

 

Games are played at Cougar Baseball field on the Campus of Cleveland State with an admission charge of $8 per person per day.
