In a hard-fought conference matchup between Cleveland State and Pellissippi State on Tuesday September, 5, the Cougars lost their opening conference match on the road 3-2, losing sets one, four and five while winning sets two and three 25-21 and 27-25.  Tied going into the fifth set Cleveland State lost a heartbreaker 18-16.

Cougar Head Coach Alizabeth Atnip said:  "What a great conference matchup.  Every Cougar player had a great impact.  We adjusted to Pellissippi but we just couldn't put them away."

In what was a frenzied team effort, the Cougars were led by Samantha Daniels and Taylor Hancock, each with 29 and 27 Digs while Kaydence Houston put down 17 Kills as Ella Johnson assisted 38 times.  Johnson also had 11 Digs and seven Kills while Daniels chipped in with nine Kills and Ryleigh McGinnis handed out 10 Assists.

On the season, Cleveland State has an overall record of 1-4 with a conference mark of 0-1.  As the season moves forward, the Cougars travel to Covenant College on Thursday, September 7, for a non-conference match with a start time of 6:30 p.m.
