Cleveland State volleyball won their final match at the Snead State Invitational on Saturday.

The Cougars (4-16, 1-6) lost their first three matches, but put together a strong final match defeating Bevil State to finish off their time in the tournament.

"Tough tournament with a lot of aggressive teams," head coach Alizabeth Atnip said. "Defense performed very well and held their own against a lot of powerful hitters."

Cleveland State faced Lawson State in their first match and lost the first two sets, but wouldn't go away silently taking set three 26-24. Lawson State then finished the match winning set four.

The Cougars second match came against Pearl River and they were not able to win a set. The match was played four hours after their first match making it their second of the day after traveling to Boaz, Alabama for the tournament.

Day two of the tournament started with Cleveland State playing NE Mississippi. The Cougars lost the first set again, but were able to take set two 25-20 before ultimately losing the next two sets.

In their fourth match in two days Cleveland State refused to go home winless. The Cougars put together their best match of the tournament winning the first set 25-17. Bevil then took set two 25-23 before Cleveland State won their next two sets to pick up the victory.

"Super proud of them playing long games and still pulling out the win in the end," Atnip said.

Cleveland State will now have a few days off before making their last road trip and playing in their final conference match of the regular season traveling to Walters State (19-7, 5-1) on Thursday. The Senators won their first meeting 3-0. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Cougars will finish their season with a non-conference home match against Trevecca Nazarene on Monday, October 23 before hosting the post season tournament.
