Cougars Volleyball Comes Up Short

Cleveland State volleyball came up short this evening against Covenant College.

The Cougars kept it close in the first two sets, but lost 25-21 and 25-23. The Scots rode their momentum into set three winning 25-16.

"Great defensive game by our back row," head coach Alizabeth Atnip said.  "We moved the ball around well, but didn't capitalize on some key opportunities offensively."

Ryleigh McGinnis served five aces in the match.  She also added 13 assists and 10 digs.  Ella Johnson chipped in with 12 assists.

Jazlyn Butler led the team with eight kills out of her 18 attempts.  And Taylor Hancock kept the Cougars close with 24 digs on the night.

"Jazz had a great swing night," Atnip said.  "And Taylor did an amazing job covering the back line for us."

The Cougars are now on a seven game losing streak.

Cleveland State (1-10, 0-3) returns to conference play for their next match when they host Walters State (13-6, 1-1) this Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
