Cougars Volleyball Defeats Reinhardt

Cleveland State completed the comeback to take down Reinhardt University last night.

The Cougars were down two sets to one before coming back to take a 3-2 victory.

"This victory goes to the hustle and pursuit from the team," head coach Alizabeth Atnip said. "I'm proud of the effort they all put in to get the win."

Cleveland State (3-12, 1-5) won a close first set 25-22. Then the Eagles took set two 25-17 and set three 25-21.

Set four went to extra set points with the Cougars pulling it out in exciting fashion 32-30, then finished off Reinhardt outlasting them 15-10 in set five to earn the win.

It was a true team performance with Ella Johnson, Alyssa Cate and Jazlyn Butler each leading the team with 10 kills a-piece. Libero Taylor Hancock led the team with 30 digs while Johnson also contributed 20. Ryleigh McGinnis put together a team best 25 assists with Johnson also having a strong performance in that category with 15.

"Solid performance from everyone," Atnip said.

The Cougars completed their revenge on Reinhardt after losing to them in the first match of the season at their place 3-0. This is Cleveland State's second home victory of the year and the second win in their last three matches.

Cleveland State turns right back around to play again tonight. This will be their first back-to-back matches of the season.

This evening the Cougars return to conference play hosting Chattanooga State (9-5, 3-1). The Tigers won their first meeting at their place 3-0. Chattanooga State is on a two-match winning streak and gave conference leading Roane State their first loss of the season last week. Tonight's match is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
