Cougar Softball Splits with Lake Land

Lake Land College braved blizzard conditions as they traveled from Illinois to play Cleveland State (2-6) on Saturday February 19, splitting under sunny Tennessee skies as the host Cougars won the first game 8-6 with Lake Land winning the second 7-0.

Cleveland State would use a 15-hit attack scoring one in the 1st inning, four in the 2nd and finally three in the 5th for the final 2-run margin of victory.  Freshman, Hadley Burnette went the distance to pick up her first win of the season.

Designated hitter, Eden Frazier led the way with three hits and two RBI's, with Cougar teammates, Emily Higgins, Sarah Morris and Lexi Vogel each chipping in with two hits.  Included in Vogel's three RBI's was a one out double in the 5th that would drive in two of the 5th inning three runs.  Rounding out the 15 hits included one hit each from Hope Ingle, Carlynn Atamaniuk, Makala Strickland and Madison Miner.

In Game two Cleveland State only found six hits in their bats coupled with three walks and one hit by pitch.  Strickland and Higgins each had two hits with Ingle and Frazier each having one.  The Cougars were unable to string together key hits and plays giving Lake Land the 7-0 win.

Cougar softball is on the road to face Georgia Highlands on Tuesday February 22 to play a doubleheader with start times set for 3 and 5 p.m. EST.
