Cougar Softball Loses Series to Volunteer State

Game One Recap

A two out rally in the third inning by Volunteer State and numerous run scoring opportunities squandered by Cleveland State led to a Cougar 6-0 loss to the Lady Pioneers in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday April 22.

Cleveland State had eight hits on the game, two hits each by Sarah Morris and Madison Miner with one each from Hope Ingle, Makala Strickland, Shelby Sullivan and Lexi Vogel. Two double plays with two runners on base wiped out chances for Cougar scoring early on while late rallies were left uncapitalized.

Game Two Recap

Down 4-0 going in to the fifth inning Hope Ingle crashed a three-run homer to bring the Cougars back in to the game.  Vol followed with a final run in their half of the inning for the final score of 5-3.

Cleveland State had 10 hits on the game, three by Ingle, two by Morris and one each by Carlynn Atamaniuk, Strickland, Sullivan, Avary Weeks and Lexi Vogel

Game Three Recap

On Saturday April 23 game three with Volunteer started with Cleveland State taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning but that would be it as Volunteer scored nine unanswered runs to win 9-1.  The Cougars managed just five hits, one each by Ingle, Strickland, Sullivan, Emily Higgins and Morris.

Game Four Recap

Three straight consecutive at bat homeruns by Strickland and a three-run homer by Weeks was not enough power as the Cougars lost the final game of the series 12-9.

With leads of 4-1 and 8-6 the Cleveland State saw the Lady Pioneers chip away at both leads culminating with six runs in the bottom of the sixth giving the Cougars the eventual loss.  Strickland with her three homeruns and five RBI's would lead the way in hitting followed by one each from Ingle, Atamaniuk, Higgins, Vogel and the Weeks homerun.
