Game One Recap

Emily Higgins won her third game of the season by pitching a five inning two hit shut, striking out seven in the Cougars game one 8-0 win vs Kishwaukee College on Tuesday March 22.  Higgins held Kishwaukee to single base runners in three out of the five innings.

The Cougars scored two runs in the second, three in the third and three in the fourth inning behind an 11 hit attack including three homeruns, one each from Hope Ingle, Makala Strickland and Higgins.  Ingle, Carlynn Atamaniuk and Strickland had two each, while Shelby Sullivan, Higgins, Sarah Morris and Eden Frazier each had one.

Game Two Recap

In game two Cleveland State lashed out 16 hits in the 15-0 five inning win and starting pitcher Bailee Phillips tossed a one hitter, striking out nine in winning her sixth game of the year.  Phillips helped her cause by going 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in three runs and belting a 2-run homer.

Ingle homered again among her three hits, driving in three runs while Strickland drove in four runs including two doubles among her three hits.  Sullivan slashed out two hits including a triple in driving in three runs while Atamaniuk, Avary Weeks, Lexi Vogel and Morris each had one.  The hit by Morris was a solo homerun in the first inning giving the Cougars a 4-0 lead.

Currently the Cougars stand at 13-12 on the season with a conference record of 5-5.  On Friday March 25 Cleveland State is back at conference play hosting Motlow State in a doubleheader slated at 2 and 4 p.m.  On Saturday March 26 the concluding doubleheader is set to be played at 12 and 2 p.m.  Home games are played at Cougar Softball field on the campus of Cleveland State with an admission charge of $8 per person.
