Game One Recap
On Wednesday April 13 with winds gusting up to 25 mph Cleveland State started a doubleheader win in game one by beating TN Wesleyan JV 3-2 behind the pitching of Hadley Burnette and Emily Higgins who gave up a combined five hits on the game. Burnette struck out five in three innings while Higgins won her fifth game of the season pitching the last four innings of the game.
The Cougars banged out 14 hits all over the field managing one run in the third inning on a homerun by Hope Ingle, another run in the fourth on a Higgins homerun with the final run coming in the 6th on a RBI single from Lexi Vogel. The hit parade included two each by Ingle, Carlynn Atamaniuk, Hannah Thrasher, Shelby Sullivan and Bailee Phillips. Higgins, Sarah Morris, Madison Miner and Vogel each had one.
Game Two Recap
In the five inning 12-4 win in game two the Cougars lashed out 15 hits as starter Hannah Thrasher pitched the complete game striking out six in winning her sixth game of the season.
The Cougars scored runs in every inning as Phillips hit a three-run homer in the fourth while Atamaniuk went 3-for-3 on the game with a double and two RBI's. Ingle, Sullivan who had two RBI's, Higgins and Morris each had two hits while Strickland, Miner and Vogel had one each.
What's Next
Cougar softball with an overall record of 24-15 and a conference mark of 14-8 are set to play home conference games vs Walter State on Friday April 15 at 2 and 4 p.m. followed by a Saturday doubleheader scheduled for 12 and 2 p.m.
