Cougar Softball Wins Two at Roane State

In game one Cleveland State scored in innings two through six led by home runs off the bat of Shelby Sullivan and Sarah Morris each with their first homeruns of the season.  Roane scored four runs in the fourth and fifth to cut the lead to 9-8 only to see the Cougars score four in the sixth for the final score of 13-8. 

 

Makala Strickland, Morris and Lexi Vogel had three hits each while Carlynn Atamaniuk, Sullivan and Emily Higgins each had one.  Madison Miner chipped in with one.  Morris and Strickland led the way with four and three RBI's respectively.  

 

Starting pitcher Bailee Phillips won for the fifth time this season while Hadley Burnette picked up a save, her first.

 

Cleveland State's 25-2 win in game two featured 24 hits and an astounding 10 RBI's off the bat of Strickland.  The Cougars lashed out homeruns from Strickland, Higgins, Miner and Hope Ingle, who had five hits on the game.  Strickland, Higgins, Miner and Avary Weeks totaled three hits each while Atamaniuk, Morris and Vogel each had two as Sullivan had one.

 

Hannah Thrasher won her second game of the year, giving up three hits while striking out four.

 

The Cougars with an overall record of 11-12 and conference mark of 5-5 return home on Tuesday March 22 for a doubleheader contest vs Kishwaukee College with game times set for 2 and 4 p.m.  Games are played on the campus of Cleveland State at Cougar Softball field with an admission charge of $8 per person.
