Game One Recap
Cleveland State softball started their conference series vs Columbia State on Friday April 8 winning game one 19-0 on 19 hits with an onslaught of six homeruns leading to 14 in the four games. Starter Bailee Phillips won her eighth game of the season striking out four while giving up two hits in the five-inning game.
Phillips supported her own cause blasting two homers while Hope Ingle, Carlynn Atamaniuk, Emily Higgins and Sarah Morris each had one. Makala Strickland, Shelby Sullivan, Morris, Phillips and Lexi Vogel each had three hits while Atamaniuk had two with Ingle and Higgins each having one. Phillip's homeruns brought home five runs while Morris sent home four. Other RBI's included three by Atamaniuk, two by Ingle and Sullivan with one each by Strickland, Higgins and Vogel.
The Cougars scored one in the first inning, 13 in the third and finished with five in the fifth
Game Two Recap
With leads on five different occasions the Cougars were not able to hold as Columbia eventually won in eight innings 9-8 in less-than-ideal weather conditions. With 13 hits and four more homeruns one each from Strickland, Morris again and two from Sullivan the Cougars were one out away from the win in the seventh when Columbia tied the score leading to the eventual win in the eighth.
Ingle had three hits on the game while Sullivan, Phillips, Morris and Vogel each had two with one each coming off the bat of Strickland and Avary Weeks.
Game Three Recap
Cleveland State's Phillips was back at it starting and finishing game three on Saturday April 9 with a complete game win striking out seven for her ninth win of the year.
In the 4-1 win the Cougars used 10 hits including homeruns from Strickland and Phillips on a day where weather conditions were much different than day one. Strickland had three hits, Ingle and Phillips each had two hits while Atamaniuk, Sullivan and Madison Miner had one each.
Game Four Recap
With four runs in the second inning, three in the third and four in the sixth Cleveland State won game four of the series 11-5 banging out three more homeruns from Ingle, Higgins and Morris again. Starting pitcher Hannah Thrasher took the win, her fifth of the season going the distance while only giving up two earned runs.
Morris was a perfect 4-for-4 while Atamaniuk, Strickland, Higgins and Weeks each had two hits with one from Ingle and Vogel.
What's Next
Cougar softball with an overall record of 22-15 and a conference mark of 14-8 are slated to play Tennessee Wesleyan JV in a midweek doubleheader at Wesleyan on Wednesday April 13 with game times set at 2 and 4 p.m. EST.
