Softball Splits Stays Alive on Day Three of the TCCAA Region VII Tournament

Game One Recap

 

Cleveland State softball started day three of TCCAA Region VII Tournament on May 10 losing to number one seed Chattanooga State 4-2 as the Cougars lashed out 10 hits but left runners in scoring position in each inning.

 

In the first inning Shelby Sullivan drove home Hope Ingle who had led off the game with a single and moved to third on a single by Carlynn Atamaniuk and a long fly ball out off the bat of Makala Strickland.  The Cougars would hold the 1-0 lead until the bottom of the second when Chattanooga State would score two.

 

Cleveland State's final run of the game was once again an RBI hit from Sullivan driving home Ingle.  Cougar rallies in the fifth and seventh inning came up short putting Cleveland State in the losers' side of the bracket of the tournament.

 

The hitting attack was led by Ingle, Sarah Morris and Lexi Vogel with two hits each while Atamaniuk, Strickland and Sullivan each had one.  

 

Game Two Recap

 

In a loser go home game Cleveland State won 10-2 in six innings vs Roane State as Hannah Thrasher picked up her eighth win of the season with the Cougars using 10 hits to score 10 runs. 

 

Cleveland State's big inning was the third when they scored six runs to take a 6-0 lead.  Phillips doubled home two and Madison Miner drilled a three-run homer to plate a total of five runs while Sullivan would drive in a single run.  In the sixth the Cougars finished the game with a two-run double by Strickland and another RBI by Sullivan.

 

Strickland, Morris and Vogel had two hits each while Ingle, Atamaniuk, Phillips and Miner each had one.

 

What's Next


The Cougars are one of four teams remaining in the tournament and are scheduled to play another elimination game which will be against Walters State on Wednesday May 11 at 3 p.m. EST.  The winner will follow up immediately and face the loser of the Chattanooga State vs Volunteer State game.
