Game One Recap

Cleveland State used to big scoring innings to win the third game of the four game conference series 14-6 on Saturday March 26. A run scoring double by Emily Higgins in inning one followed by a double by Madison Miner driving in two and a run scoring single by Lexie Vogel gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead after one inning of play.  Motlow State clawed back in to the game and took the lead scoring a total of six runs in the second, third and fourth innings.  The Cougars led by Shelby Sullivan's three-run homer  jumped back in to the lead in their half of the fourth scoring eight runs followed by another in the fifth to end the game with an eight run lead.

Cleveland State used a 15 hit attack lead by Vogel who was a perfect 3-for-3 on the game and Higgins who also had three hits.  Carlynn Atamaniuk had two doubles to go along with Miner's two hits who also had three RBI's.  Hope Ingle, Makala Strickland, Sullivan, Sarah Morris and Avary Weeks had one hit each.

Starting pitcher Emily Higgins tossed the first 3.1 inning while relief pitcher Hadley Burnette finished the final 1.2 innings earning her third win of the season.

Game Two Recap

Hannah Thrasher won her third game of the year pitching five strong innings striking out four while giving up just two hits in the 9-1 win in the final game of the four game conference series. 

The Cougars used nine hits on the game to score their nine runs with three in the first inning, four in the second and the final two in the fourth.  Vogel finished a perfect day at the plate going 2-for-2 while Ingle lashed out two hits coupled with Sullivan's two hits and four RBI's.  Atamaniuk, Morris and Miner each had one hit while Strickland had zero official at bats on a hit by a pitch, walk and sacrifice fly scoring two runs and driving in one. 

What's Next

The Cougars with an overall record of 17-2 and a conference mark at 7-5 take the week off game wise to practice and prepare for ninth ranked Chattanooga State with the four game series set to begin on Friday April one with games scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. EST and Saturday April two with games at 12 and 2 p.m. EST.  Games are played at Cougar Softball field on the campus of Cleveland State.  There is an $8 admission charge each day per person.
