Game One Recap

 

Bailee Phillips started the series vs Southwest Tennessee on Friday April 29 tossing a two-hit shutout while striking out eight winning her 10th game of the season.  Phillips was 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in a run as Makala Strickland was also 2-for-2 including a two-run homer for the Cougars 3-0 win.

 

Hope Ingle and Sarah Morris had the other two hits on the game and each walked and scored a run. 

 

Game Two Recap

 

Cleveland State pitcher Hadley Burnette was next up shutting down Southwest, winning 6-0 striking out 10 while giving up four hits for her fifth win of the season.

 

The Cougars pounded out 11 hits with Phillips going 2-for-2 again hitting a two-run homer to keep her perfect at bats intact.  Carlynn Atamaniuk and Morris joined Phillips with two hits each while Ingle, Strickland, Shelby Sullivan, Avary Weeks and Lexi Vogel each had one.

 

Game Three Recap

 

The Cougars lost 8-7 in eight innings to start off the Saturday April 30th doubleheader as they came back from a fourth inning 6-1 deficit only to come up short at the end of eight.  Southwest banged out 13 hits to Cleveland State's 10.

 

Ingle and Sullivan each had three hits while Phillips had two.  Morris and Madison Miner each chipped in with one.  

 

Game Four Recap

 

Cleveland State ended the regular season in outstanding fashion winning 10-1 in six innings as Hannah Thrasher struck out five winning her seventh game of the year.

 

The Cougars bookended five runs with a first inning two-run homer by Strickland and a three-run homer by Morris in the sixth to end the game.  Strickland's homerun was her 17th of the year setting a new Cleveland State record.  Finishing out the 13-hit attack included three hits each from Ingle and Sullivan one more each from Strickland and Morris with Emily Higgins, Miner and Vogel each with one.

 

What's Next


Cougar softball with an overall record of 27-22 and a conference mark of 17-15 finish the regular season as the number five seed in the TCCAA Region VII NJCAA Tournament and will play number four seed Dyersburg State.  The tournament starts on May 8 with the Cougars first game scheduled to be played at 3 p.m.  The tournament will be played at Chattanooga State.
