Men’s Basketball Starts with Convincing Win at TCCAA Tournament

Friday March 3 featured a convincing win by Cougar Basketball at the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII
Tournament as they beat Volunteer State 79-61 scoring 35 points in the first half and 44 points after
intermission. The win moves Cleveland State into the body of the tournament as they are now
scheduled to play Columbia State on Sunday March 5 at 12:00 p.m. EST.

Coach Rafael's Cougars were all over the floor as their team hustle manufactured 16 steals while
Volunteer State managed three. Shooting 47.5% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc
Cleveland State had three players in double figures led by Damon Fann with 18, Slade "Tre"
Chatman who tossed in 17 and K'Juan Banks who went for 15.

Banks grabbed a team leading nine rebounds as the Cougars outrebounded Volunteer 33-30. Joshua
Horn had eight points, Tony Sapp and Mark Greer each had six while Chatman was the leader in
steals with four.

The single elimination tournament is being played at Roane State Community College in Harriman
Tennessee with the eventual winner of the tournament moving on to play in the NJCAA National
Tournament.
